Since 1980:
A Legacy of Quality and Service

What began as one couple’s vision for improving ag services near Jasper, Missouri in 1980 has become a multi-faceted agronomic company serving Southwest Missouri and Southeastern Kansas. Mel and Jeanie Andrews, with their children Brad (4) and Amanda (3), moved into an apartment over the service station at what is still often called “Tucker’s Corner” on Highway 43 west of Jasper in the spring of 1980. While Mel began his plan to provide custom application services, Jeanie ran the service station and even served as a short-order cook there for a time. With added partnership from Jeanie’s parents, Carl and Alice Bowers, Medoc Valley, Inc. was up and running by the fall of that year, and the rest is history.

Along the way, Medoc Valley overcame the usual agronomic and mechanical hurdles ever-present in the agriculture industry. They also faced unexpected financial obstacles, including a large unpaid debt due to a customer’s bankruptcy. It was during this financial low that Carl began a high-nutrient by-product spreading contract with ConAgra Foods in Carthage, MO. That revenue added to the growing custom application client list Mel was building allowed the company to move Jeanie into an administrative role and eventually to the hiring of the company’s first employee – driver, applicator Bob Smith. When Mel and Jeanie’s son Brad joined the company after graduating from Missouri Southern State College in 1998, the four-person crew would likely never have guessed the growth that would come in the next decades.

Brad’s focus turned to professional agronomic consulting, and he pursued his Certified Crop Advisor Licensure and mentorship from a professional ag consulting group in Kentucky in the early 2000s. Almost immediately, many area farmers caught the vision of increased yields through professional agronomic advising, and the professional consulting side of Medoc Valley was born. The addition of Justin Smith on the application side of the business and Logan Stump to the consulting side gave the team a larger reach and opened several growth opportunities.

As Mel began to look toward retirement, a customer introduced the Medoc Valley owners to Randy and Melissa Regier, long-time farmers from Western Kansas who were making a move to the area to be closer to family. The Regiers came into the business in 2016 and into full partnership in 2018 bringing with them the capacity for expanding the sales arm of the company as well as additional management support for the growing demand of agri-services from Medoc Valley. It was time to expand yet again.

Over the last ten years, Medoc Valley, Inc. has grown to employ additional certified applicators, drivers, and managers in addition to four full-time agronomists. Company employees are regularly training in new products, equipment, and techniques as Medoc Valley strives for excellence and innovation in agronomic practices at every opportunity.

A new Crop Nutrient Blending Facility is Medoc Valley’s latest addition. The 600-ton capacity facility is part of the company’s continuing commitment to providing top-quality products and services to the ag community it serves. The new facility offers improved levels of efficiency, quality control, and reliability in fertilizer blending and application. It also offers new options for producing specialized cover crop blends – once again, the needs of area farmers and an opportunity for innovation were the driving forces behind the latest Medoc Valley expansion.

As the agricultural industry continues to bring new opportunities and challenges, the owners and professional staff of Medoc Valley, Inc. are prepared and excited to meet the future as they have navigated the past – with a quality of service that reflects their unwavering commitment to local farms and farmers. Mel and Jeanie’s original vision was the catalyst for a company that continues to evolve to meet the needs of Medoc Valley’s farming community.
